NYC Concert: “Brazilian Rhythms & Styles”
The Brazilian Music Foundation is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a concert titled “Brazilian Rhythms & Styles,” May 9, 8:30 pm, at the National Opera Center, 330 Seventh Ave. (between 28th and 29th streets), 7th floor, New York, NY.

Brazilian Music Foundation concert.
Featured artists include Max Barros (classical piano), Evangelos Spanos (classical piano), Octávio Deluchi (classical guitar), Carlos Almeida (vocal and guitar), Mariana Bravo (vocal), Gil Oliveira (drums and percussion), Hugo Sambone (trombone and accordion), Miho Nobuzane (piano and keyboard), and Esequias Ferreira (clarinet) with special guest Ana Fernandez (vocal).

The Foundation said, “Brazil's musical mix is the result of our ethnic and cultural mix. For example, the lundu was adapted by the curumins from the religious songs of the Jesuits, while the chorinho evolved from the mixture of European music brought by the Portuguese court and the street festivals enlivened by the atabaques of African slaves. This fruitful mixture germinated in our imagination, creating a fusion between popular and classical elements. The communion of ethnic miscegenation with the creative imagination gave rise to our national character and its captivating musicality. The broad and deep links between the history of Brazilian music and its social and cultural elements are demonstrated in this concert.

“From lundu to MPB, we will present some musical hits by artists like Chiquinha Gonzaga, Ernesto Nazareth, Villa Lobos, Francisco Mignone, Donga, Ary Barroso, Cartola, Dorival Caymmi, Tom Jobim, Zequinha de Abreu, Nelson Cavaquinho, João Gilberto, Luiz Gonzaga, and more.”

The guitarist/vocalist has been loved in his home country for decades since the 1960s when he first began composing and performing. In the early 90s, Bosco mounted a major tour of the US and since then has become increasingly popular internationally, regularly performing at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival, among others.

Bosco is also one of Brazil's formidable songwriters. His music, though rooted in Brazil's classic samba and bossa nova traditions, combines rock, jazz, African sounds and other ethnic styles in an eclectic mix. With lyrics by poet Aldir Blanc, his songs are considered classics.

Bosco will perform with his regular band: Ricardo Silveira on guitar, Francisco “Kiko” Freitas on drums, and Gustavo Dellagerisi on bass.
